What If.... MS Dhoni Would Have Hit Sandeep Sharma for a Last-Ball Six?

No one can really match MS Dhoni's stardom. On his day, he can float like a butterfly and can stings like a bee. However, not every day can be your day, and 'Thala' witnessed it first hand against the Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.

MS Dhoni came into bat when CSK required 63 off 30 deliveries, and Ravindra Jadeja standing at the other end. Arguably the greatest finisher the world has seen, MSD started on a slow note, but once he got his eye in, there was no looking back.

He targeted Adam Zampa and that was the announcement of MS Dhoni's arrival. However, even the best of finishers can falter and that's what happened with MS Dhoni. In the final over, CSK needed 21 runs, and Sandeep Sharma was ready to bowl the final over.

Dhoni did manage to struck two sixes in that over and 5 needed off the final ball, but Sandeep kept his cool and bowled an inch-perfect yorker as the CSK skipper failed to deliver the goods and RR won a thrilling game.

But the big question arises, what if MSD would have hit that last ball for a six?

WHAT IF...?

Critics would have been shut!

Before the IPL 2023 started, people questioned MSD's fitness and whether he still has the hand-eye coordination to deal with the slog over situations. But throughout the tournament, he has silenced everyone with breath-taking stroke-play. Had MSD hit Sandeep Sharma for a last ball six, the critics would have gone back to their den, and the question of the greatest finisher of all time would have been buried then and there.

Two worthy points would have been achieved

Heading into the game, CSK had won back-to-back games and were on 4 points alongside Rajasthan Royals. A win would have taken them to 6 points, level with Lucknow Super Giants. But with a brilliant yorker by Sandeep, MSD failed to hit that out of the park and the result - RR got two crucial points and have cemented their place as the top team in the points table.
