Delhi Capitals' all-rounder Axar Patel has opined on the batting form of skipper David Warner. Despite being the second-highest run-scorer for his team, the Australian opener has been struggling to score at a reasonable strike rate in recent matches. In this regard, Patel lamented that Warner is trying his best with the bat, but things are not falling into place for him.

Patel further highlighted that the batting department has been struggling to find its footing in the ongoing tournament, forcing Warner to play the anchor role. Therefore, it is not feasible for him to attack from the other end when wickets are falling at the other end.

"If you talk about the last two-three games, he is trying, but it’s just not happening for him. When Prithvi (Shaw) is batting with him, he tries to play the anchor role. When wickets are falling from one end, it’s not good to try and keep attacking from the other end as well," said Patel in the post-match press conference.

In the recent match against Mumbai Indians (MI), Warner scored a sloth-paced 51 off 47 balls, which was scrutinised by cricket pundits and fans alike.

Patel further revealed that the coaching staff, including head coach Ricky Ponting, former Australian cricketer Shane Watson, and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, are analysing videos of Warner's recent innings and discussing his strike rate issue.

"Everyone has spoken to him about the strike rate and how he can improve. They also saw some videos. They are working on it," concluded the 29-year old.

It is pertinent to mention that the Australian veteran hit only six fours in his innings against Mumbai and was dismissed in the penultimate over, miscuing an attempted big hit off Jason Behrendorff.

Despite Axar's blazing knock, Delhi could not seal the victory, as Mumbai chased down the target of 173 in the last ball of the match.

Delhi Capitals' next encounter will be against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, April 15. It remains to be seen if Warner can improve his strike rate and contribute significantly in the upcoming matches.
