The Afghanistan Cricket Team is reportedly set to embark on a brief tour of India in June, following the conclusion of the World Test Championship (WTC). While the exact schedule of the tour is yet to be finalized, it is expected that an official announcement will be made by the respective cricket boards soon.

As per a Times of India report, a source within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Afghanistan cricket team will be visiting India for a short tour in June, after the WTC final at The Oval in London from June 7-11.

“Yes, the Afghanistan cricket team will undertake a short tour to India in June, after the World Test Championship final (at The Oval in London from June 7-11),” a source from BCCI told Times of India.

It is a significant development that demonstrates BCCI's support for cricket in Afghanistan, despite the country's recent political turmoil. In the past, the BCCI has provided its stadiums in Greater Noida, Dehradun, and Lucknow as the home base for the Afghanistan cricket team.

While the itinerary of the tour is still unclear, it is a significant development for Afghanistan cricket, which has been severely impacted by the Taliban's recent takeover of the country.

Since the Taliban's ascension to power, Afghanistan has not been able to tour major cricket-playing countries. Moreover, the Taliban's decision to ban the women's cricket team has put Afghanistan's full membership of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in jeopardy.

However, despite the challenges, the ICC has continued to support Afghanistan's full membership, recognizing that the decision to ban the women's team came from the Taliban and not necessarily from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).

In their previous tour to India, Afghanistan played their maiden and one-off Test in June 2018, which they lost by an innings and 262 runs, wrapping up in only two days.

The announcement of the tour to India comes as a positive development for Afghanistan cricket, as it provides an opportunity for the team to gain valuable experience and exposure to top-quality cricket. Meanwhile, India is scheduled to travel to the West Indies in July for two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is, instead of the three earlier.
