Massive Setback For CSK With Deepak Chahar and Ben Stokes Sidelined For 'Extended' Period

In a significant blow to the Chennai Super Kings, their premier seamer Deepak Chahar and ace all-rounder Ben Stokes are set to be ruled out of action for an extended period of time. Notably, Chahar sustained a hamstring injury during CSK's third group-stage fixture against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on Sunday night.

Chahar, who opened the bowling for the Super Kings, complained a hamstring strain after delivering five balls, following which he somehow completed his over and walked off the field, without further taking part in the game. Although an official word is yet to come, as reported by Cricbuzz, the experienced swing bowler is expected to be sidelined for a few more matches.

Meanwhile, Stokes has sustained an ankle injury, which will likely keep him out of action for at least a week. Stokes, who recorded consecutive failures in the first two games, was ruled out of Sunday's mega clash after developing the injury.

The absence of these two core players will certainly haunt CSK, who have got a solid start to their IPL 2023 campaign. However, considering their bench strength, we reckon it won't be a big headache for the Super Kings think tank to rebuild their best playing XI.

Placed fourth with two wins in three games, CSK will take on Rajasthan Royals in the 17th fixture of the tournament this Wednesday.
