Ajinkya Rahane Praised By Ex-India Star For 'Out-Of-Syllabus' Knock Against Mumbai Indians

Ajinkya Rahane unfurled the innings of the match against Mumbai Indians to power the Chennai Super Kings to an emphatic seven-wicket victory at the Wankhede Stadium. Known for his orthodox batsmanship, the cricketer clubbed a boundary-driven 27-ball 61 to notch up his first IPL fifty since the 2020 edition of the tournament.

With CSK possessing an arsenal of hard-hitting batters in their line-up, Rahane's blinder came out of the syllabus, as summed up by former Indian opener and active commentator Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel.

Ajinkya Rahane, now 34, entered the IPL 2023 edition for CSK off the back of three listless seasons from 2020 to 2022. A prolific T20 batter, Rahane dusted the Mumbai Indians' bowling attack to help his side register their second successive win.

Aakash Chopra lauded Rahane's efforts with the bat and claimed age is not a barrier to success in the shortest format. He said:

“Devon Conway got out at the start but after that one-sided. Ajinkya Rahane - out-of-syllabus question. He knows every nook and corner of this ground. He came and hit, and that too in a very technically correct fashion. He said that it might be a 20-over match but 30-plus also do well in that.”

The match against Mumbai Indians was Rahane’s first of the season, considering he did not feature in CSK’s playing XI in their initial two games. They will now go up against the Rajasthan Royals on April 12 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
