In a remarkable turn of events, swashbuckling Australian opener David Warner has completed 6000 runs in the IPL. Warner, who captains Delhi Capitals in the tournament, achieved this phenomenal batting milestone during their ongoing encounter against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.

Thus, Warner became the first overseas and third overall player to breach the 6000-run mark in the IPL history. He is also the fastest to attain the landmark.

Most runs in IPL history

  • Virat Kohli: 6727 runs in 217 innings
  • Shikhar Dhawan: 6370 runs in 207 innings
  • David Warner: 6003* runs in 165 innings
  • Rohit Sharma: 5880 runs in 223 innings
  • Suresh Raina: 5528 runs in 200 innings

Since debuting in 2009, Warner has been one of the most consistent performers in the IPL, placing himself among the IPL legends- AB De Villiers, Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina.

The explosive batter, who led SRH to their maiden IPL title in 2016, was released by the franchise ahead of the 2022 mega auction. However, Delhi Capitals trusted in his abilities, eventually handing him the leadership baton after Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the tournament.

Regarding the game, Rajasthan Royals posted a massive total of 199 runs, courtesy of magnificent half-centuries from Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. As of writing, DC are 70 for three in 10.1 overs, with Warner and Lalit Yadav batting on 35* and 16*, respectively.
