The year 2023 is massive for Indian cricket, with multiple global events in store, namely the upcoming ICC World Cup. With India hosting the tournament, fans, former players, and experts have in unison called on the home side as front-runners to lift the coveted trophy that has illuded the nation since the 2011 WC, which was also held jointly by India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

Former India opener and 1983 WC-winner Krishnamachari Srikkanth has revealed his potential XI for the marquee event while speaking to Sanjay Manjrekar and Yusuf Pathan during his commentary stint in the ongoing IPL 2023.

Known for his explosive batting and straightforwardness, Srikkanth in his cheeky manner took a jibe at Manjrekar, who had a suggestion for the former.

"Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, number four I'll still pick Suryakumar Yadav. KL Rahul could be fifth, Hardik Pandya sixth. Ravindra Jadeja at 7, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj."

In reply, Manjrekar suggested that Shardul Thakur should be included as well giving depth to the XI, to which Srikkanth responded.

"Not Shardul. Arshdeep could be there. Shardul can take wickets, but he can also concede 12 runs in an over. You're from Mumbai, that's why you're naming Shardul! Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav; two of these spinners can play in the XI."

Interestingly, both Thakur and Singh have started their IPL 2023 campaign on a good note for their respective franchises.
