In one of the most enthralling matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 81 runs, courtesy of Shardul Thakur's blitz. Apart from Thakur, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rinku Singh contributed with the bat, helping them post an enormous 204-run target after reeling on 89 for 5.

KKR's spinning trio of Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and debutant Suyash Sharma made a mess out of RCB batters, bundling them out for 123, thus the franchise notched their maiden win in IPL 2023.

However, not everything was so cheerful with KKR, skipper Nitish Rana and Andre Russell's shot selections were questionable with their side in trouble.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar came down heavy on Rana during commentary, who got out playing reverse sweep on the very second delivery he faced from Michael Bracewell.

In post-match analysis, speaking to Star Sports, Gavaskar praised the brewing rivalry between KKR and RCB as well.

Here's what Gavaskar said

"What kind of shot was that from KKR captain? He didn't connect at all. And as a captain, I think that shot was completely avoidable.

"The rivalry of KKR and RCB has given a new height to IPL. The stories related to the rivalry between these two teams took the fandom to an extreme and this was the reason why IPL emerged as the biggest T20 leagues in the world in due course."

KKR take on Gujarat Titans on Sunday in Ahmedabad. Whearas, RCB will play next against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday.
