Bhanuka Rajapaksa Provides Update on Injury Picked up During Match Against RR

Sri Lankan cricketer Bhanuka Rajapaksa has provided an update on his injury that he sustained during the Punjab Kings' IPL 2023 match against the Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

Rajapaksa had scored a half-century in Punjab's opening match against the Kolkata Knight Riders was was riding high on confidence. The southpaw came in to bat at the No.3 position during the match against the Rajasthan Royals. In the 11th over, bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin, Punjab Kings' captain Shikhar Dhawan hit a powerful shot down the track that unfortunately struck Rajapaksa on his right forearm.

The impact of the ball caused the Sri Lankan international considerable pain and discomfort, and the team physio had to attend to him on the pitch. Despite receiving medical attention and having his forearm wrapped with bandages, the swashbuckling left-hander had to retire hurt and leave the field.

However, in a recent tweet, Rajapaksa has updated his fans and well-wishers about his injury. He revealed that X-rays have confirmed that he has not suffered any broken bones or fractures. While Rajapaksa acknowledged that he needed to use plenty of ice to manage the pain, he assured his followers that he is doing fine.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings won the match against the Rajasthan Royals, largely thanks to Shikhar Dhawan's unbeaten knock of 86 runs off 56 balls and Nathan Ellis’ brilliant four wicket haul. The Kings posted a challenging total of 197 for 4, while the Rajasthan Royals fell just short of the target with a score of 192 for 5 in their 20 overs.

Punjab Kings' next match is against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 9 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. It remains to be seen if Rajapaksa will be fit to play in this crucial fixture, which promises to be a high-voltage encounter between two competitive sides in the competition.
