The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced its plan to create a commemorative monument dedicated to MS Dhoni's iconic six that led India to victory in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka.

The monument will be erected at the precise spot where the ball landed in the stands of the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It is expected that the memorial will be inaugurated by none other than the legend himself after it is completed.

India recently marked the 12th anniversary of their historic 2011 World Cup triumph. The Men in Blue secured a memorable victory against Sri Lanka in the final at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium, chasing down the target with six wickets in hand.

Speaking about the memorial to Cricbuzz, Amol Kale, the president of MCA, said that it is difficult to pinpoint the exact seat where the ball landed, but they have identified three or four potential spots for the installation.

"We will install a memorial at the very place where the six had landed in the stands. It is difficult to identify exactly on which seat the ball had landed. We have identified three-four seats and we will install the memorial at that very spot,” said Kale.

MCA Secretary, Ajinkya Naik, also expressed his hope that the monument would inspire young cricketers to follow in the footsteps of Captain Cool and achieve greatness in their cricketing careers. He also added that the memorial would be a fitting tribute to Dhoni's incredible match-winning innings, which secured India's victory in the 2011 World Cup final.

In addition to the monument, MCA has also planned to felicitate Dhoni during the IPL 2023 match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 8. It will be an opportunity for the cricketing community to celebrate the iconic moment and honour the man who brought glory to the nation.
