MS Dhoni, who has led CSK to four IPL titles, is a demi-god for the locals of the city. Dhoni is known as Chennai’s adopted son, and has received unprecedented love from the city over the years. After a long wait of 1426 days, fans in Chennai will be welcoming back Dhoni and CSK to Chepauk.

Due to Covid-19, all of IPL 2020 and 2021 was held in the UAE, while the entire 2022 season was played in Mumbai. The last time CSK played at Chepauk was on May 7, 2019, against their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.

Chennai fans have historically got much lesser chances to watch their team playing live, if compared to other venues. CSK was banned in 2016 and 2017 and when they returned, CSK could only play a single match in Chennai before their home venue was shifted to Pune. They played a total of nine matches at Chepauk in 2019, including the Qualifier.

CSK will be playing a total of seven games at Chepauk this year, the first of which is against the Lucknow Super Giants on April 3.

CSK come to the contest after losing their season opener against the defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a knock of 92 to guide CSK to a first innings total of 178, but their bowlers botched up big time as the opponents got over the line in 19.2 overs. CSK’s impact player Tushar Deshpande gave away 51 runs in only 3.2 overs.

They will now look to make a strong comeback on their home ground. But defeating LSG, who won their season opener against Delhi Capitals by 50 runs, will not be an easy task.
