In a monumental decision by Cricket Australia (CA), money has been poured in Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) and the Big Bash League (BBL) as a part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the board on Monday.

The initiative was taken to ensure that both the men's and women's league remain competitive in the changing landscape of cricket.

The MOU signed by CA ensures that Women's cricket gets a hefty pay rise. Their salary cap has been doubled to AUS$732,000 per team amid the increasing competition from other leagues like The Hundred and Women's Premier League.

The signed MOU ensures that top female cricketers in Australia will be able to earn as much as AU$800,000 through national duties and franchise leagues in Australia.

"I think we'll have a few of them [earning a million] in the next few years," Todd Greenberg, the Australia Cricketers' Association CEO, said.

"Some of our girls who are playing in India earn significant amounts of money in the WPL, and on top of this deal now, they will become million-dollar athletes. And so they should because they're the best in the world at what they do," he added.

BBL set for a rise as well

Not only women's cricket, but the BBL is also set for an overhaul. The salary cap has gone upwards from AUS$2 million to AUS$3million, with the top-tier players set to earn A$420,000 for an entire season.

The BBL has been trimmed for the upcoming season, in order to ensure that big overseas players sign a longer deal with their respective franchises.

Apart from this, CA are also set to increase women's central contract list from 15 to 18, with a 25 percent pay rise for the players.
