In what comes as a piece of welcome news, Mumbai Indians' head coach, Mark Boucher, has confirmed that Rohit Sharma and Jofra Archer are available for selection in their opening Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Despite speculations arising that the Mumbai Indians skipper may not be fit for the first game due to his absence from the captain's photoshoot in Ahmedabad, Boucher has quashed such rumours.

"Yes, Rohit is fit. He has trained for the last two days and is 100 per cent ready to go. I think he didn't feel particularly well that morning and just as a precaution, we told him to stay at home," said Boucher at the pre-match press conference ahead of their opening game against RCB.

On the other hand, Archer is returning from a lengthy injury layoff but is set to lead Mumbai Indians' pace attack. Boucher confirmed that Archer's fitness level is at 100%, and he is all set to play against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

"Jofra (Archer) is good, he is 100 per cent ready for tomorrow. We are very happy with his progression since he has been with us. He'll be playing tomorrow," added the MI coach.

The South African veteran also commented on the team's previous season, in which they had an underwhelming performance, ending up in the 10th position. Nonetheless, the coach expressed his optimism, stating that the team's morale is high due to new additions and a positive attitude towards the upcoming season.

He emphasized that a good start is crucial, but the team will not panic if things do not go as planned, as the IPL is not decided in the early stages of the tournament.
