The stage is set for another pulsating season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the Delhi Capitals take on Lucknow Super Giants in their opening game on Saturday. Having won the toss, Delhi chose to field first, and when the team sheet came, the name that left everyone curious was the name of Aman Hakim Khan, who was announced as their substitute.

The talented all-rounder has been making waves in the domestic circuit with his explosive batting and tight bowling. Delhi Capitals management was tracking the young prodigy closely, and ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, the franchise traded India all-rounder Shardul Thakur for him from KKR, raising a few eyebrows.

Who is Aman Hakim Khan?

Born and raised in Mumbai, Aman was exposed to the game of cricket at a young age, thanks to his father, who played Under-19 cricket for the city. It was his father's dream for Aman to be a fast bowler, but little did he know that his son would be a fine batsman too.

Aman's journey to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. His consistent run-scoring caught the eye of the Under-19 selectors, and subsequently, he made his debut for Mumbai in the 2021 Vijay Hazare Trophy on the back of a successful Under-23 NCA camp.

Playing alongside Shreyas Iyer in the inaugural season of the T20 Mumbai tournament in 2018, Aman gave a glimpse of his immense potential. The duo shared a 127-run stand for the second wicket in a losing cause, with Iyer scoring a 57-ball 72 and Aman a breathtaking 47-ball 85, which featured six fours and six sixes.

Not long before he caught the attention of IPL franchises, and after six years of attending trials, he finally broke through when the KKR bought him as an uncapped all-rounder for INR 20 Lakh at the IPL 2022 Auction. However, he could feature for KKR in just one game, where he scored five runs and gave away 13 runs in the one over he bowled before being transferred to Delhi.

It is worth mentioning that ahead of the IPL tournament, Ricky Ponting, the coach of Delhi Capitals, praised Aman's talents, stating that he has left a remarkable impression on the team, which is why they traded Shardul Thakur for him from KKR. However, the Australian also acknowledged that he had not seen enough of the youngster's performance, but his display in training was exceptional.

Now, Aman finds himself in the Delhi Capitals' squad for IPL 2023, and he will be determined to make the most of this opportunity. But will he be able to deliver when it matters the most? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure - Aman Khan is a talent to watch out for, and he might just be the breakout star of the upcoming season.
