After KL Rahul's early dismissal, Kyle Mayers got the responsibility on his own shoulders, taking control of Lucknow Super Giants' innings. The West Indies opener smashed a quick-fire half-century on his IPL debut off just 28 deliveries.

When LSG's skipper returned to the hut, their score was reading 18-1 after four overs. And it was when Mayers got dropped at 14, and then he stripped off his tee and wore a cape.

The explosive southpaw took off against DC's debutant Mukesh Kumar, tonking a couple of mighty sixers against the right-arm seamer. And then he smashed a couple more boundaries off Axar Patel. He completed his fifty with a mighty slog sweep into the stands off Kuldeep Yadav to get to the milestone.

After getting to his maiden IPL fifty, Mayers continued his gung-ho show against the Delhi bowlers before eventually getting dismissed by Axar in the 12th over.

In the end, the 30-year-old swashbuckling batter went back to the pavilion on 73 off just 38 balls, smacking two boundaries and seven biggies.

At the time of writing, LSG is at 100-3 after 11.3, with Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis being the unbeaten batters.
