The Lucknow Super Giants made their IPL debut last season and went to the top four, losing the Eliminator at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

2023 is a different year and the team have made slight changes to their squad ahead of yet another IPL season. So here at OneCricket we decode the strongest XI for LSG in IPL 2023.

Openers

Kyle Mayers, KL Rahul

With the unavailability of Quinton de Kock for the first game due to national duties, Kyle Mayers will slot in that opening spot alongside KL Rahul.

The left-right combination and the opposite style of play will compliment the duo and the team to perfection.

Middle Order

Nicholas Pooran: The former West Indies captain, Pooran was bought by LSG for INR 16 crore. Pooran is a hit and miss player, but if he can get consistent, there is no dangerous batter than Pooran in that LSG squad.

Deepak Hooda: IPL 2022 rejuvenated Deepak Hooda's international career. He scored 451 runs in 15 matches and will provide stability in the middle order. Apart from batting, Hooda can also chip in with some off-break deliveries.

Marcus Stoinis: A dangerous all-rounder, Stoinis can turn the game on its head. LSG are blessed to have quality all-rounders in the squad, and none bigger than Stoinis who can also work as a finisher for the franchise.

Ayush Badoni: One of the finds of IPL 2022, Badoni rose to fame when he played some crucial knocks towards the start of the tournament. This is a different season and there is a lot more expectations from Badoni. Can he live up the tag?

Krunal Pandya: The former Mumbai Indians player brings in a plethora of experience with him. He can anchor the innings, he can finish things off in style and can also give you 4 valuable overs. Krunal is an asset for LSG at number 7. He can also be used as a floater.

Bowlers

Jaydev Unadkat: With Mohsin Khan out to due to a back injury, Unadkat has a great chance to cement his place in the side. His left-arm variety will prove to be a valuable focal point for the side. Unadkat is also a master of off-cutters and will be aiming to use that to perfection.

Ravi Bishnoi: LSG have a quality spinner in their ranks. Last season, he was one of the most effective spinners on the circuit and is a great wicket-taking option for KL Rahul. He can open the bowling, and is a master of the middle-overs.

Mark Wood: The X factor of LSG, Mark Wood provides that extra zip that nobody else can provide. His ability to generate extra bounce will trouble the best in the business. Last season he missed the IPL due to injury issues, but a fit Mark Wood this season will wreak havoc with the ball in hand.

Avesh Khan: Tall and fast, Avesh Khan has all the tools to be a successful fast bowler. He was a hit and a miss bowler last season, and still needs to work on his lines and lengths. However, if he gets everything sorted, Avesh can be a deadly asset for the LSG side.
