Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has started this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) with a bang. Gaikwad has smashed an unbeaten quickfire fifty for the four-time champions, where he smashed three boundaries and five maximum.

The 26-year-old batter smashed a 23-ball half-century against the reigning champions Gujarat Titans in the opening contest of the IPL 2023.

Gaikwad, who bagged the Orange Cap in 2021, saw three quick dismissals from the other end. CSK first lost Devon Conway to Mohammed Shami in the third over the innings, before Gaikwad and Moeen Ali had a partnership brief period.

However, the wily spinner Rashid Khan sent Moeen back to the hut, thanks to a low swallow by Wriddhiman Saha. And then he got rid of Ben Stokes to a similar kind of dismissal.

However, the CSK opener held the forte from his end, smacking all the Gujarat bowlers throughout the park. Gaikwad broke the leash against Joshua Little and then went berserk in front of Alzarri Joseph and captain Hardik Pandya.

At the time of writing, Gaikwad is batting at 73, reaching off just 37 deliveries. He has just lost Ambati Rayudu, with Chennai’s score reading 121-4 after 12.5 overs.
