In a significant development, Chennai Super Kings have handed debut cap to promising all-rounder Rajvardhan Hangargekar in the IPL 2023 opener against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

Hangargekar, who played a crucial role for the Indian u-19 team in their title winning World Cup campaign, is finally set to play his first match for the franchise after warming the bench for a long time.

Notably, Hangargekar was instrumental in Indian under-19 team’s triumphant World Cup campaign in 2022. A well-built guy, Hangargekar emerged as India’s trump card in the tournament, proving his mettle with both bat and ball.

While he made the new ball talk, his nonchalant hitting down the order helped India finish their innings on a high note throughout the tournament.

His all-round exploits earned him his maiden IPL contract, as he was bagged by the Super Kings in the 2022 mega auction for a decent amount of INR 1.5 Crores.

But unfortunately, he couldn’t find a place for himself in CSK’s star-studded lineup in the IPL last season. However, as they don’t have Mukesh Chaudhary, the MS Dhoni-led outfit has given the 20-year-old a chance to prove himself in this clash.

After winning the toss, CSK decided to bat first. At the time of writing, they are 1 without a loss in 0.2 overs.
