Out-of-favour Indian Test batter Ajinkya Rahane will play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season after being purchased by the club for INR 50 lakh at the auction last year.

Rahane, who opens the batting in T20 cricket ahead of CSK's opening match against Gujarat Titans (GT), revealed that he is ready to play in any position for the skipper and team.

CSK has a settled opening pair of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Rahane's credentials as a T20 batter are no-less impressive. In 158 IPL matches, the former India Test captain has scored 4,074 runs, including two centuries and 28 fifties.

As quoted by India Today, Rahane sounded elated to play under MS Dhoni again, with whom he shared the dressing room while appearing for India and Rising Pune Supergiants.

Here's what Rahane said:

"I have always been an opener. I have always opened the batting in the T20 format, so not much of a difference in my role. Still, whatever the management and captain asks me to do, I am always open to doing it. For me, it's always about the team, so whenever I get an opportunity I will give my best,"

Rahane is riding on the back of a decent Ranji season, having slammed 634 runs for Mumbai in seven outings. On Ben Stokes' role, Rahane said that Dhoni will utilise the all-rounder to the best of his ablities.

In his long IPL career, Rahane has featured for franchises like Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders as well.
