One of the most prolific run-getters in Tests and a member of the Fab 4, England's Joe Root will turn up for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) appearance this season. Root, who had a stellar Test series against New Zealand, played for the Dubai Capitals in the inaugural International League T20.

The former England captain slammed 214 runs in five matches for the Capitals, shattering the myth about his one-dimensional batting.

On arrival in India, Root said he is excited to be a part of the IPL and forward to bonding with his teammates, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag and Ravichandran Ashwin

As quoted by The Hindu, the 32-year-old spoke about the importance of being consistent and match-ready.

Here's what Root said

"I’m just trying to be as consistent as I can be. You can always work on things slowly and in the background, but ultimately you are trying to make sure that your strengths are as good as they possibly can be,

"And that you know you’re switched on and ready for any situation and scenario that you find yourself in and you have that clarity under pressure."

Purchased for INR 1 crore in the IPL 2023 Auction, Root is no mug with the bat in T20s, having scored 2,083 runs from 88 matches.

The Samson-led side will go up against one-time IPL winner Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 2.
