Pakistan's captain, Babar Azam, has recently been under the scanner over his leadership abilities. The 28-year-old cricketer, who leads the Men in Green in all three game formats, has been criticized for the team's underwhelming performances in recent matches.

Notably, former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has joined the chorus of voices questioning Babar's captaincy, stating there is room for improvement in his leadership skills.

“I believe that Babar Azam has a lot of room for improvement in his captaincy,” Afridi was quoted as reported by Cricket Pakistan.

The erstwhile cricketer pointed out that Babar needs to improve his captaincy to achieve better results. The scathing criticism comes after Pakistan's string of poor performances, including a 3-0 whitewash in their Test series against England, a 0-0 draw in their two-Test series against New Zealand, and a 2-1 defeat in their ODI series against the Black Caps.

Despite the criticism, Afridi acknowledged that Babar has the potential to become a better captain if he puts in the work.

It is worth noting that Babar led the Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament. He scored 522 runs in 11 matches, including a century and five fifties, at an average of 52.20 and a strike rate of 145.40.

Subsequently, Babar and other senior cricketers were rested from Pakistan's three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, played in the United Arab Emirates. Shadab Khan led Pakistan in Babar's absence, but the team suffered a 2-1 series loss against Afghanistan. This defeat marked the first-ever series loss for Pakistan against Afghanistan in any game format.
