With Rishabh Pant out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to an unfortunate injury, Delhi Capitals have finally named his replacement in the squad.

It has been reported by PTI that Bengal keeper Abhishek Porel has been drafted in the squad as a cover for the injured Rishabh Pant.

Pant met with a car accident last year in December and suffered serious injuries which could keep him out of action for the remainder of the 2023 season. The southpaw is currently going through a rehabilitation process and is certain to miss a large chunk of the summer, which includes the IPL 2023, WTC final, and the upcoming Asia Cup.

Talking about his replacement, Porel has done well for Bengal in the domestic competitions, but looking at the Capitals squad, it is highly unlikely that the Bengal keeper will directly be slot into the playing XI.

However, with just 21-years-old, the Capitals have all the time in the world to groom the youngster. The other wicket-keeping options in the side are Phil Salt, Manish Pandey and Sarfaraz Khan.

The Delhi Capitals recently announced their captain in the form of David Warner, and his deputy in Axar Patel. The franchise failed to reach the knockout stages in the last season, but will aim for high under the astute leadership of David Warner.
