With the ICC World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024 due in the next 18 months, auctions for a place in the Indian side will get underway when the Indian Premier League (IPL) begins on March 31. Out-of-favour batter Prithvi Shaw will once again be under the scanner during his stint with Delhi Capitals this IPL 2023.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has backed Shaw to come good for the Capitals. Shaw, who joined Delhi back in 2018, has scored 1,588 runs in 63 IPL matches, with 12 fifties.

Ganguly, who is back with the Capitals as Director of Cricket, speaking to the Times of India, stated that Team India captain Rohit Sharma and selectors will have their eye on Shaw.

Here's what Dada said

“I think Prithvi Shaw is ready to play for India. Whether he gets an opportunity will depend on slots. I am sure Rohit Sharma and selectors have a close eye on him. He is a good player and ready,”

The former Under-19 World Cup-winning captain has already featured in six ODIs, one T20I and five Tests for India, amassing 528 runs, combined.

Shaw was dropped from the side after a string of low scores on his only Australian tour in 2020.

Former India opener Murali Vijay also opined that Shaw's absence from the Indian set-up was unanswerable. The Indian team management has persisted with Shubman Gill, who has proven his backing lately with oodles of runs.

Delhi will go up against the Lucknow Super Giants in their opening encounter on April 1.
