In latest development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has changed their rating of the Indore Test pitch from 'poor' to 'below average' after an appeal was submitted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the stipulated time.

The ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process meeting decided to overturn the pitch rating submitted by match referee Chris Broad after the completion of the third Test between India and Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, which was hosted by Indore and lasted just two days and a session.

The ICC appeal panel consisted of Wasim Khan and Roger Harper, who reviewed the Test footage after BCCI's appeal. Additionally, Holkar Stadium has been awarded one demerit point as opposed to three-handed by match officials.

Here's what ICC statement said

“It was deemed that there was not enough excessive variable bounce to warrant the “poor” rating. Instead, the appeal panel concluded that the pitch should be rated as “below average.”

Consequently, 1 demerit point has been awarded to the venue for the “below average” rating."

India went on to lose the Test by nine wickets but won the BGT 2023 2-1 after the fourth and final Test at Ahmedabad ended in a tame draw on a flatbed.

The pitches on offer in the One-Day International (ODI) series were also below par, as batters struggled to score runs as Australia clinched the series 2-1.
