Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has shared his thoughts on the strength of Delhi Capitals ahead of the WPL 2023 final against Mumbai Indians. While Delhi has had an impressive season so far, Chopra believes that Shafali Verma's inconsistency means that she cannot be considered as a reliable strength for the team.

Despite scoring 241 runs in eight matches at an average of 34.42, Verma's form has dipped in recent games, which has led to concerns about her ability to perform in high-pressure situations.

Chopra opined that while Verma can be a high-risk player who can change the game in an instant, her early dismissal could put added pressure on the rest of the team. He emphasized the importance of consistency in knockout games and expressed doubts about Verma's ability to deliver in such situations.

"I won't say Shafali Verma is a strength. We really don't know what you are getting out of Shafali Verma, especially if it is a knockout game,” said Chopra on Jio Cinema as quoted by Sportskeeda.

In contrast, the cricketer-turned-commentator lauded the captaincy of Meg Lanning, who he believes is Delhi's biggest strength. According to him, the Australian's outstanding leadership skills have been instrumental in guiding the team through the tournament. He also praised Lanning's batting and her ability to absorb pressure and take the game deep.

"Delhi's strength is Meg Lanning's captaincy. She is outstanding. She is not only batting for herself but her partners as well, that she will absorb the pressure and take the innings deep,” added the former Indian opener.

The erstwhile cricketer further emphasized the importance of the battle between the two captains, Lanning and Harmanpreet Kaur, in the WPL 2023 final. He believes that the clash will be a showdown between the two best captains of the tournament.

“It is also a battle between the captains - there is Meg Lanning on one side and Harmanpreet Kaur on the other. This tournament's two best captains will be against each other," concluded Chopra.
