Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Matthew Hayden demanded MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu to use their experience to full effect in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Known for backing experienced players, CSK got tagged as 'Dad's Army'. While the strategy bore fruit for them in the 2018 and 2021 seasons, as they won the two trophies, their consistency has taken a toll.

Emphasising how the franchise is again going in with the same plan, Hayden accentuated the roles of CSK skipper Dhoni and middle-order batter Rayudu.

While these two have not been at their best, the Aussie wants them to break away from their poor form and be the team's pillars.

"They have had this for a little is that they're kind of a Dad's Army - a tagline that they seem to have received. This year is a little bit the same as well. MS Dhoni is of an age like Ambati Rayudu where they really need to be key players, not just have the potential as leaders of the team. So those two key players in particular, with that age of their side, is it going to be experience or is it going to be decline of CSK," Hayden said as quoted to Star Sports.

The Chennai-based side will go up against Gujarat Titans in the tournament opener on March 31 at Ahmedabad.
