Riding on Rovman Powell's batting masterclass, West Indies defeated South Africa by three wickets in the first T20I of the three-match series. The Men in Maroon gained a crucial 1-0 lead in the series with this emphatic win.

After being put into bat, South Africa had a disastrous start to their innings, losing Quinton de Kock in the first delivery of the innings. Rilee Rossouw, who started his inning with a boundary, couldn't do much, being dismissed for 10.

Skipper Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks played some delightful shots, but got out before converting their starts to match-winning knocks.

However, veteran finisher David Miller stepped up for South Africa, ensuring a defendable total for them through his sensational hitting. Before getting out to Odean Smith, Miller enthralled the spectators, smashing four boundaries and three sixes for his breathtaking 22-ball 48.

CSK's recent recruit Sisanda Magala also played a priceless 18*-run cameo as South Africa finished on 131 for 8 in 11 overs.

Rovman Powell's fireworks leads West Indies to a stunning victory

In reply, West Indies were off to a flier, courtesy of breezy cameos from Brandon King and Johnson Charles. While King smashed two fours and as many sixes for his 8-ball 23, Charles hammered three humongous sixes for a quick-fire 14-ball 28.

Despite wickets tumbling at the other end, skipper Rovman Powell held the fort for the visitors. The match went down to the wire, thanks to Sisanda Magala's sensational penultimate over. However, Powell held his nerves to hit a nonchalant six in the final over to take West Indies over the line.

Magala bowled a magnificent spell, but his efforts were not enough to secure a win for the hosts.
