So, the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League is down to the match that matters. It is the final of the tournament and two of the best teams will be playing each other for the trophy.

Team Journey

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals finished the league stage at the top of the table. They displayed the best of their cricket skills throughout the game. Out of the eight matches that they played, Delhi Capitals managed to win six matches. The Meg Lanning-led side finished with 12 points and the best NRR in the points table. The advantage of finishing at the top was that they got a direct pass to the final match.

Key Contributors for Delhi

  • Meg Lanning herself has been the biggest contributor for the team. She has scored 310 runs in the tournament at an average of 51.60 and a strike rate of 141.55. Lanning is the highest run scorer in the tournament and has provided solid starts to the team throughout. She will be the most important cog in the final.
  • With 10 wickets in eight matches, Shikha Pandey has been their best in the bowling department. She has used her experience in both the opening spell and in the death overs and has been really influential in the team's journey to the final.

X-Factor for the Final

  • Marizanne Kapp has been influential for Capitals journey in the tournament. In fact in the last encounter against the Mumbai Indians she picked up two wickets for 13 runs in her four overs. If we talk about her number in the tournament, Kapp has scored 159 runs in six matches at an average of 53.00. She has also picked up nine wickets in eight matches.

Threat in the final

  • Shafali Verma has a strike rate of 182 plus in the tournament. But the major concern is her consistency. She can take the game away from the opponents if she bats for 20-25 balls but there is a chance that she might get out very early playing an erratic shot.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians started the tournament with a bang. But towards the end of the league stage they lost a bit of momentum. Because of this, they finished second in the points table and had to play UP Warriorz in the Eliminator before making it to the final. But in the match that mattered, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side brought out their A-game and find themselves in the summit clash.

Key Contributors for Mumbai Indians

  • Hayley Matthews has been the most outstanding performer for the team in the tournament. She has scored 258 runs in 9 matches and has also picked up 13 wickets in the tournament. There is no doubt that Matthews will hold the key for the team in the final.
  • Natalie Sciver-Brunt has been one more player that has made all-round contributions for the team. She has scored 272 runs in 9 matches and has also picked up 10 wickets. Two more things that makes Sciver-Brunt a vital cog are that she is in  excellent form and is a proven big-match performer.

X-Factor for the final

  • Saika Ishaque was a name not so known to a regular cricket fan prior to the Women's Premier League. She has picked up 15 wickets in 9 matches in the tournament and once again they will be depending on her to change the momentum in the middle-overs.

Threat in the final

  • Harmanpreet Kaur's leadership might be the biggest threat in the final. She has taken the Indian team to the business end of the many multi national tournaments but in the end has failed to come back with the silverware. That mental block of not being able to cross the final hurdle could disrupt her thinking in this match.
