Riding on a fiery half century from Nat Sciver, followed by a dominating bowling performance, Mumbai Indians Women crush UP Warriorz Women by 72 runs in Eliminator match of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL 2023). Harmanpreet Kaur and co have completely outplayed UP, making a statement and made their way through to the final.

Nat Sciver stars with the bat

After being asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians Women had a decent start, adding 46 for one in the first six overs. Yastika Bhatia was that one wicket which was taken by Anjali Sarvani, who was superb with the new ball.

Nat Sciver, who came to bat at three was dropped by Sophie Ecclestone at mid-off in the last ball of the powerplay. UP had no idea how that drop was going to hit back at them later in the game. Hayley Matthews, who was kept quiet by the UP bowlers was sent back by 16-year-old Parshavi Chopra in the very first ball of her spell.

Sciver, who looked in a very good form after the powerpay, continued the onslaught taking MI to 78 for 2 at the halfway mark. Skipper Harmanpreet, who was looking to up the scoring rate from her end as well, was sent back by Ecclestone before any major damage.

However, Sciver continued her onslaught at the other end and completed her half century in 27 balls. She went on to remain unbeaten till the end with 72 off just 38 balls. There were some good cameos from the other end by Amelia Kerr and Pooja Vastrakar, helping MI to post a formidable 182 for four in 20 overs.

Chasing 183, UP Warriorz had a horrible start with the bat as they lost three early wickets, including Alyssa Healy and Tahlia McGrath in the first five overs. Kiran Navgire did launch some big shots to take UP to 46 for three at the end of the powerplay.

UP needed to stitch a big partnership in order to stay alive in the chase. Navgire alongside Grace Harris was looking to stitch a partnership for the fourth wicket but Nat Sciver was not doing anything wrong tonight. She removed the in-form Harris after the powerplay, limiting the Warriorz to four down with only 57 on the board.

Skipper Harmanpreet was brilliant with her bowling changes as MI successfully kept UP quiet after the powerplay. Navgire tried to get UP back in the chase, extracting a 19-run over off Amelia Kerr but was soon sent back by Issy Wong, who further went on to remove Simran Shaikh and Sophie Ecclestone, claiming the first ever hat-trick in WPL.

The contest was long gone as Deepti Sharma soon departed, leaving UP at a miserable position. MI went on to bowl UP out for 110 and won the game by a comprehensive 72 runs.
