The Indian Premier League (IPL) is upon us and all foreign and domestic players are converging to their respective franchise cities to participate. Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis reached Bengaluru on Wednesday evening and will lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the second time in a row.

Du Plessis is coming off a decent outing in the SA20 league, captaining the Joburg Super Kings, where he hit 369 runs, including a hundred. Former India opener Aakash Chopra, ahead of IPL 2023, lauded du Plessis' appointment and said the Protea player is the only non-active international player to maintain his stature.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former Kolkata Knight Riders batter stated that du Plessis commanded respect, and that is what RCB needed with Virat Kohli stepping down as skipper post IPL 2021.

Here's what Chopra said

"This team has now got the habit of making the playoffs. They are doing extremely well for the last two-three years because their selections have been very good. They chose a solid captain, went after Faf du Plessis. He is the only non-international active player whose stature has not gone down at all,"

In his first season with RCB, du Plessis slammed 468 runs and guided the Bangalore-based club to finish third in IPL 2022.

RCB will go up against the Mumbai Indians in their tournament opener at Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 2.
