The inaugural edition of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL) has been highly successful, with massive fan turnout and TV/ viewership. One of women's cricket's most exciting all-rounders, Australia's Ashleigh Gardner played for the Gujarat Giants' franchise and dished out decent performances in the league.

Gardner, who is the costliest-overseas WPL player worth INR 3.2 crore, hailed the league and said it would help India dominate women's cricket shortly.

Australia's second-only indigenous player was awarded player of the series in the recently concluded ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023, scoring 110 runs and picking up 10 wickets.

Speaking to The Hindu, the 25-year-old expressed delight over seeing newer Indian talent come up in the competition.

Here's what Gardner said

"As international cricketers, we have been waiting for this competition (WPL) to start off. In five to 10 years, I think India could dominate women’s cricket, but I might be retired by then, so I won’t have to fight them at their highest."

The WPL has already identified new talent in Saika Ishaque, Shreyanka Patil, Parshavi Chopra and Yastika Bhatia.

Gujarat Giants finished last in the WPL 2023 points table with two wins and six losses.

The Delhi Capitals will face off against the winner of Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz on Sunday in the final at Brabourne Stadium.
