Australian Batter Terms Himself 'Flexible' Ahead of ICC World Cup 2023

Coming off an injury lay-off, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh starred for Australia in their 2-1 One-Day International (ODI) series win over India in their backyard last evening. Marsh, slammed 194 runs at an astounding average of 97, all whilst opening the innings. 

Marsh took on the opening slot in the absence of David Warner, who only played in the final Chennai ODI, and that too, he came down the order to bat. Warner was nursing an elbow injury that the opener sustained in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which did not heal in time for the first two matches.

Speaking about his new-found success as an opener, Marsh said that this is a sweet headache for Australia heading into the ICC World Cup later this year, which will be played in India itself.

According to India Today, Marsh opened up on his competition with Warner saying the latter will return to the top and that what matters for the team is flexibility. 


Here's what Marsh said

"Certain guys bat in different positions at times and it is really important that we have a squad mentality so with Davey out, it was my opportunity. 

He (Warner) has been an incredible player for Australia for a long time and one of the best ODI openers ever so I am sure he'll slot back in at some stage but I think it is really important that we're all really flexible and it was nice to perform for the team."

Marsh has often been utilised as a floater for white-ball sides and played a crucial part in Australia's ICC T20 World Cup winning campaign in 2021. 

Interestingly, both Marsh and Warner will be seen playing for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).
