Injury-hit Indian Superstar to play ODI World Cup 2023

Shreyas Iyer, the current KKR skipper who suffered a back injury during the fourth Test match of the Border Gavaskar trophy at Ahmedabad is reportedly ready to skip IPL 2023 if needed, to be match-fit for the World Cup 2023 to be held in India in October-November.
As the home World Cup is around the corner, Shreyas has decided that he would not go for a surgery at this point in time as it would take him at least six to seven months to recover after the surgery.
The batter seems to be keen on keeping a ‘wait and watch approach’ for the time being and is in talks with BCCI, NCA and other stakeholders like the KKR management about how he should go about his business.
It is almost certain now that Shreyas would not be part of KKR at least in the first half of the IPL, and that would surely be a big blow for the franchise. In that case, KKR would need to find another captaincy option and the coming few weeks are set to be pretty exciting with uncertainties hovering all around us.
As for Shreyas Iyer, he is currently in Mumbai and has been advised to rest for 10 days by spine-specialist Abhay Nene. The current back injury is the resurgence of his previous back injury which ruled him out of the first Test of the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Also, Indian cricket as a whole has been hit from all corners with injuries to key players in recent past.
Jasprit Bumrah, India's ace speedster has been out of action from September 2022 due to a back injury and his participation in the World Cup still remains in doubt. Moreover, Rishabh Pant too is out of action after his car accident and it remains to be see how India and the respective IPL teams deal with the absence of these key-marquee players.
