In a significant development, veteran Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has withdrawn his name from The Hundred 2023 draft. Starc, who recently enjoyed stellar success in the India ODIs, was expected to emerge as one of the top picks in the draft, to be conducted on Thursday. This is the second consecutive time the ace pacer has pulled out on the eve of the Hundred draft.

Meanwhile, the competition will also miss a few other marquee players- Jhye Richardson, Anrich Nortje, Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs- who have also withdrawn their names from the draft.

While Richardson is out of action due to a hamstring injury, Nortje will participate in the inaugural Major League Cricket, set to run between July 13 to 30. Naturally, it's understandable that he won't be involved in The Hundred this season, starting two days after the MLC.

In another notable event, English batter Laurie Evans has been included in the draft after serving his ban following a positive dope test just prior to the BBL 12. English keeper-batter Ben Foakes and Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal are also new additions to the draft.

On the other hand, the Women's Hundred draft sees the absence of Australian seamer Megan Schutt along with Annabel Sutherland and Tayla Vlaeminck. The trio joins a host of other Australian players- Meg Lanning, Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath- who had earlier pulled out from the competition.
