They Have Changed Their Engine Too Many Times: Irfan Pathan on Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings has been one of the most inconsistent sides in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They will once again be under a new coach and captain combination, with Trevor Bayliss and Shikhar Dhawan being at the helm of affairs for them in the 2023 season.

The franchise decided to part ways with Anil Kumble after a poor 2022 season and decided against retaining skipper Mayank Agarwal ahead of the IPL 2023 Player Auction.

Kings' often chopping and changing has often been regarded as one of their weak points, and former Indian Irfan Pathan completely agrees with the notion.

Speaking on Star Sports, the former Punjab Kings all-rounder stated that their engine has been changed too many time, which has not let the team settle down.

Here's what Pathan said

"Their engine has always been the problem. For many years their engine has kept changing. They've changed their engine almost as many times as the number of years the IPL has been played."

However, looking ahead to the upcoming season, Pathan sounded confident about the Kings' chances, who have a competent bowling attack.

The likes of Arshdeep Singh, Kagiso Rabada, Nathan Ellis, Sam Curran, and Rahul Chahar form a formidable line-up this season to bowl at Mohali.

Apart from Bayliss, the backroom staff has former international players like Brad Haddin, Charl Langeveldt, Wasim Jaffer, and Sunil Joshi.

Punjab Kings meet Kolkata Knight Riders in their tournament opener on April 1.
