The pinnacle of ODI cricket, the ICC World Cup, is just a few months away from us. With several top-class teams set to take on each other, the tournament, scheduled in October-November promises to be a blockbuster.

Meanwhile, legendary former cricketer Wasim Akram has listed Pakistan among the favourites to win the tournament.

Speaking to Sports Tak, Akram termed Pakistan as one of the favourites going to the tournament, considering their star-studded lineup.

The talismanic fast bowler reckoned that their fast-bowling unit, comprising Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Hasnain, will make them a team to beat in the competition. He also highlighted how Shaheen Afridi has evolved his batting, terming it a massive boost for the Men in Green going forward.

On being asked if he can tag Pakistan the favourites to win the showpiece event, Akram stated:

"Of course, I will. Our captain is a great player and we have one of the best fast-bowling lineups in the world. Shaheen Afridi is currently in prime form. He is developing pretty well as an all-rounder. Then there is Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah. Hasnain is there, Ihsanullah is an exciting young fast bowler. I think because the World Cup is happening in India, it is the team with the stronger bowling attack that will succeed."

Meanwhile, Pakistan had an undesirable start to the World Cup year, incurring a 1-2 defeat to New Zealand on home soil. They will be up against Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series starting this Friday.
