Cricketing ties between India and Pakistan have always been dictated by their geo-political relations. Since 2009, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has categorically refused to tour Pakistan or play a bilateral series, which is a bone of contention for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.

The BCCI has refused to travel to Pakistan for the marquee event in September, while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has threatened to pull out of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, who has been vocal about Indo-Pak relations since his retirement, has urged BCCI to allow its players to land on Pakistani shores and participate in the Asia Cup.

Afridi played for the Asia Cup in the Legends League Cricket Masters, where he rubbed shoulders with several former Indian players who also play for the Indian Maharajas team.

Afridi ensured that Team India would be given the top-most security in Pakistan, as several high-profile nations have already visited the country in recent months.

Here's what Afridi said

"It would have been really nice if India had come. It would have been a step towards Cricket and Pakistan for India. This is not the generation of wars and fights. We want relationships to get better,.

"What can we do if we want to befriend someone and he does not talk to us? There is no doubt that the BCCI is a very strong board, but when you are strong, you have more responsibility. You don’t try to make more enemies, you need to make friends."

Afridi-led Asia Lions beat the World Giants in the LLC 2023 final last evening to lift the title.
