She Deserved her Century: Former India Opener 'Hails' Magical Sophie Devine

Former India opener, Aakash Chopra believes that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB's) Sophie Devine deserved to score a hundred against Gujarat Giants on Saturday.

Chasing a mammoth 189, RCB went all guns blazing right from the start and it was the New Zealand batter, Sophie Devine, who was the aggressor and played the innings of the tournament. She blazed away to a quick-fire 99 off just 36 deliveries, laced with 9 boundaries and 8 sixes, before being eventually dismissed by Kim Garth.

Thanks to her stellar knock, RCB made a mockery of the total and chased it within 16 overs.

Speaking to JioCinema, Chopra lauded the way Devine batted and reckons that RCB their best match till date.

"RCB not only won this game but issued a statement as well that when they play well, they can play so well. The total was extremely big, which could have been difficult to chase. We should actually see this match in reverse order. Sophie Devine - 99, she deserved a century."

He added: "The shots she played, seriously wow. It was the wow innings of the Wow Premier League. She struck such huge sixes. She not only hit sixes but blew the opposition team away. It should have been the first century of the WPL but unfortunately, she was caught at mid-off at a score of 99."

Having lost their first 5 matches, RCB have now won back-to-back games, and have improved their net run-rate after dismantling the Giants. To qualify for the next round, they still need to win their remaining games and hope that the other results go in their favour.
