RCB Women registered their second successive win this WPL 2023 season, after they were handed five heavy defeats upfront. They flayed a hapless Gujarat Giants unit at Brabourne, and in doing so, demoted them as the new wooden-spooners of the tournament.

RCB’s celebrated return also boosted their net run-rate as they aim to reboot their so-far disastrous seasonal campaign.

Wolvaardt, Gardner lift Giants to 188

Gujarat Giants opener Laura Wolvaardt launched aggression from the outset despite losing partner Sophia Dunkley early in the innings. Wolvaardt smoked 68 off just 42 deliveries all while belting nine boundaries and two sixes.

Sabbhineni Meghana at number three scored a run-a-ball 31 before Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner unleashed a 26-ball 41 at the end.

For the RCB, spinner Shreyanka Patil snared two wickets from her two overs but received little assistance from her teammates as the Giants mounted a challenging 188-4 in their innings.

Devine poses 99 problems for Giants

RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana finally found her lost footing with the bat by registering her highest score of the season. She scored 37 and formed a herculean 125-run opening stand with Sophie Devine, who, by the way, might well have unfurled the innings of the tournament.

The burly New Zealander clubbed 99 attacking runs in just the 36 deliveries she faced in the run-chase. The 33-year-old all-rounder landed eight of those deliveries for huge sixes and smoked nine of them for boundaries as 84 of her 99 runs came from clearing the fence alone.

The RCB catered themselves to an eight-wicket win with Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight guiding them past the finishing line in the 16th over.
