PSL Better Than IPL, States PCB's Najam Sethi Alongside Numbers

Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board’s management committee, Najam Sethi, has revealed that the on-going eighth season of Pakistan Super League has got better views on digital media when compared to the Indian Premier League. Speaking about the ratings received by both the T20 tournaments, Sethi mentioned a few numbers.

"Record crowd and record ticket sales. Let’s talk about digital. PSL was only at the half stage, so I asked about our digital rating. Najam Sethi show used to have 0.5 rating on TV, whereas PSL is getting rating of more than 11. So it would be 18 or 20, when it completes," Sethi said in a press conference.

"Over a 150 million people watched it on digital. It is not a small thing. At the same stage, IPL’s digital rating was 130 million and PSL is more than 150 million. So this is a great success of Pakistan," he added.

There has always been a comparison between the two tournaments, played by two countries considered cricket’s greatest rivals. 

The IPL started in 2008, while the PSL was first played in 2016. The prize money given out to the winners of both tournaments has a huge difference. 

 The winner of IPL 2022 – the Gujarat Titans, received a cash prize of INR 20 crore, while the runners-up received INR 12.5 crore. In comparison, PSL 2022 winners - Lahore Qalandars - received INR 3.4 crore while the runners-up - Multan Sultans took home INR 1.5 crore.

The final of PSL 8 will be played between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars on Saturday in Lahore.
