New Zealand Cricket has announced the inclusion of all-rounder Rachin Ravindra in their One Day International (ODI) Squad to face Sri Lanka, replacing Michael Bracewell.

The left-handed all-rounder has been released from the Kiwi squad to join Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. The Bangalore based franchise has signed up the player as a substitute for Will Jacks, who had to withdraw from the tournament due to an injury sustained during his tour of Bangladesh with the England team.

Ravindra is expected to join the ODI team in Auckland on Wednesday, ahead of the first match of the three-match ODI series scheduled to start on Saturday, March 25, at Eden Park in Auckland.

New Zealand head coach, Gary Stead expressed excitement over Bracewell's opportunity to participate in the IPL, especially given his capabilities as a spin bowling all-rounder. He emphasized the significance of this experience, especially since the World Cup will be held in India later this year.

“It’s exciting he’ll get a chance to take up the learning opportunities the IPL provides - particularly as a spin bowling all-rounder. With a World Cup in India this year it’s great to have players getting more experience in those conditions,” said Stead.

Stead further added that he has been impressed with Ravindra's steady development in all formats this season, with consistent performances with both bat and ball. He is pleased to see the young all-rounder given an opportunity to train and perform in the BLACKCAPS environment

“This will be another good chance for him to spend time in the BLACKCAPS environment,” added the Kiwi coach.

Ravindra, who has previously represented New Zealand in T20I and Test cricket, is yet to play in an ODI. The upcoming series against Sri Lanka presents an opportunity for him to display his talents in this format.

It will be intriguing to see how the Wellington born cricketer fares in his maiden ODI appearance and whether he can make an impact in the Blackcaps' quest for victory against their South Asian counterparts.
