Former New Zealand cricketer, Simon Doull, has once again taken issue with the batting of Mohammad Rizwan, during the Qualifier match between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars in PSL 8 held on Wednesday in Lahore.

Doull, an experienced and widely respected cricket commentator, opined during the match commentary that Rizwan should have shown greater aggression during the powerplay phase of his innings. He expressed his disappointment in the stumper's performance, noting that he scored only 33 runs off 29 balls and failed to hit a single boundary in a span of 10 overs.

“33 off 29 and he’s out in the 14th over. It’s just not acceptable. He didn’t hit a boundary in 10 overs. The third over was his last boundary. You’ve got to take more risks than that,” Doull said on air during the Qualifier.

The renowned commentator further stated that the Multan skipper should have taken more risks and attempted to put the opposing team under greater pressure. He emphasized that the Qualifier was a game where players could take more chances since they would get a second opportunity to play the same team in case they lost.

Notably, the 53-year-old had earlier criticized Rizwan's performance in a match against Karachi Kings, stating that the player should have left the field to allow the power hitters to take control. He had stated that wicketkeeper-batter should be more mindful of his team's interests and not hold back the scoring rate by only scoring at a strike rate of 109.

Meanwhile, the Rizwan led side stormed to their third consecutive PSL final after defeating Lahore Qalandars by a massive margin of 84 runs. The Multan-based franchise now has the opportunity to win the PSL title once again, having last won it in 2021.
