After a horrendous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, the Mumbai Indians will be eager to return to their old winning way in the upcoming edition and make a statement.

With the unavailability of Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson, the Mumbai Indians have a few troublesome holes in their squad, which could also derail their tourney this season.

However, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that Mumbai has it in them to turn around their fortunes in IPL 2023. Gavaskar further called England pacer Jofra Archer as MI's trump card for this season.

Archer did not play last year owing to an injury, which saw the bowler get snapped by the franchise at the IPL Mega Auction.

Speaking to Star Sports, the 73-year-old opener also predicted that this could be a special season for Rohit Sharma.

 Here's what Gavaskar said

"Jofra Archer is one (trump card) for sure. Ishan Kishan after his ODI double hundred will be somebody to watch out as well. And I think Rohit Sharma will do something really special this season.

I think their strength will be the presence of Jofra Archer. He can pick wickets upfront and also bowl a couple of overs in the end, block the runs and pick up wickets as well,"

Archer recently made a successful comeback into cricket after a long lay-off, playing for MI Cape Town in the inaugural SA20 competition before featuring for England on their white-ball tour of Bangladesh this week.

Mumbai Indians begin their campaign against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru on April 2.
