With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 done and dusted, the action shifts to the ODIs, which will act as a perfect foil to the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Several IPL franchises have already begun their preparatory camps, while others are busy finessing out the finer details.

One such team is the Mumbai Indians, who have a couple of glaring issues on hand to resolve, with the unavailability of the pace bowling duo — Jasprit Bumrah (no official announcement) and Jhye Richardson.

Former India captain and Mumbai's very-own Sunil Gavaskar believes that MI will miss Bumrah, but remains confident about their chances in IPL 2023.

Bumrah is a bona fide IPL star, having played 120 matches and taken 145 wickets at an average of 23.30 since 2013. The pace has struggled with back injuries lately and recently underwent successful back surgery in New Zealand.

Speaking to Star Sports, Gavaskar further stated that he envisions Mumbai in the top three this season.

Here's what Gavaskar said

"They have to forget what happened last season and got to believe that they have the team to do it again. They will miss Jasprit Bumrah. But they have got a team that can win the championship once again. I see them in the top three definitely, because they have a point to prove after last year's performance."

As per reports floating around, MI might rope in Sandeep Sharma as Bumrah's replacement.  The Rohit Sharma-led club is yet to name a suitable substitute for Richardson as well.

Mumbai will lock horns against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their opening match on April 02 at Chinnaswamy.
