In the wake of injury worries in the South African camp, the national selectors have made some changes to their squad ODI squad for the three-match series against West Indies.
On Monday, Cricket South Africa (CSA) added Wayne Parnell and Tabraiz Shamsi have replaced the likes of Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj in the squad.
Maharaj, who was taken out on a stretcher in the Wanderers Test, has ruptured his left Achilles tendon while celebrating a wicket. It is understood that the state of the injury is severe, and the left-arm spinner might miss the ICC Cricket World Cup, scheduled for later this year.
Meanwhile, the fast-bowling all-rounder Mulder has sustained a grade one side strain, as reported by CSA.
Both Tabriaz and Parnell were part of the Proteas squad during the 2022 T20 World Cup but haven't represented the national squad since then.
In the 50-over format, both these players have astonishing numbers and can be solid players for the national team in preparation for the World Cup this year.
For the ODI series against Windies, the Proteas have already named an extensive line-up under Temba Bavuma's leadership. Earlier in the month, they named two squads for just a three-match series, where five cricketers - including four uncapped players - have been added for the last ODI.
The three-match ODI leg between hosts South Africa and West Indies will begin on Thursday at the Buffalo Park.
