Jasprit Bumrah's prolonged struggle with his back has emerged as a painful headache for Team India in recent times. Despite being a gifted bowler, Bumrah has missed plenty of action due to a back stress fracture, which recently ruled him out of the IPL 2023

As the ace seamer continues to rehabilitate after being successfully operated in New Zealand, the Indian think tank is looking for his short-term replacement across formats.

Meanwhile, legendary Australian speedster Brett Lee believes Bumrah's injury could open the door for the Test debut of Umran Malik, who has earned plaudits for his eye-catching performance in white-ball cricket.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Lee reckoned that India should consider introducing Malik to the Test setup, considering his incredible potential as a fast bowler.

"He (Umran) is good enough in my opinion. He has got good pace, got nice action and runs in well with a beautiful approach. So yes he can be injected. He is a superstar in the making,

Continuing, the 46-year-old also came up with a precious tip for Jasprit Bumrah, advising him to extend his run-up to minimise his injury woes.

"Bumrah has got a wonderful record. Unfortunately for him, he has had that worrying back issue for quite sometime now. The only advice I would say is that with his run up being so short, he has to find that pace and power out of his action where I think, maybe now in due course he might extend his run up to allow that pressure to be taken of his back."

Meanwhile, Umran will represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming Indian Premier League season and look to cement his place in the national side by performing admirably in the series.
