The Pakistan cricket team is grappling with a perplexing conundrum ahead of their upcoming three-match T20 international series against Afghanistan in Sharjah.

According to recent reports from various media outlets, there is a growing concern regarding the workload of some of the team's seasoned players, prompting selectors to mull over the possibility of resting them for the upcoming series. This has given rise to many conjectures regarding who will fill the captain's shoes in Babar Azam's absence.

As per insider sources, several players, including Imad Wasim, Shan Masood, and Shadab Khan, are said to be vying for the coveted captaincy position. However, it is Shaheen Afridi who was purportedly being considered as a possible replacement for Babar Azam.

In a startling turn of events, though, even the left-arm speedster has been advised to rest, thus exacerbating the team's captaincy conundrum.

According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board's Management Committee chairman, Najam Sethi, contacted Babar, Mohammad Rizwan, and a few other players on Sunday to apprise them of the Board's plans to give them some much-needed respite during the forthcoming series.

In light of the players' strenuous workload, this decision is being hailed as a prudent move that bodes well for the team's future prospects. However, while Babar and Rizwan expressed their availability for the series, the Board still maintains that the decision to rest them is in their best interest.

The series between Pakistan and Afghanistan is set to commence on the 25th of March in Sharjah, with the second and third T20Is scheduled to be played on the 27th and 29th of March, respectively.

As the countdown to the series continues, the Pakistani cricket team is on tenterhooks, waiting to see who will lead them in the absence of their senior players.
