'What is Bazball?': Gavaskar Questions England's Test Approach, Favours India

Former Indian captain and legendary opening batter, Sunil Gavaskar, who is one the greatest endorsers of the purest format of the game, has questioned England's newly adapted approach to play Test Cricket.

One of the greatest from his era, Gavaskar played Test cricket, showing patience, temperament and composure. However, under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, the Three Lions have changed how to play the longest format of the game.

With a more aggressive and risk-taking approach, England are scoring runs at bizarre rates of 5-6 RPO, which Tests have never seen. The legendary Indian cricketer isn't a fan of "Bazball" and has openly spoken against England's newly appointed approach.

During the second session on Day 4 between India and Australia at Ahmedabad, Gavaskar was asked whether the home team should be batting in Bazball-esque to produce a result out of a match heading towards a draw.

Replying to the question, the former Test cricketer said mockingly: "Pehle toh mujhe yeh batao ki yeh Bazball kya hai? (Firstly, tell me, what is this Bazball?)"

Later after Gavaskar was told about what Bazball stands for, he said he doesn't believe in it, and Team India also won't agree with playing Test cricket in such a manner. Furthermore, he commented that when a team can score with a tested formula, why is there a need for such experimentation?

Meanwhile, India - thanks to Virat Kohli's 28th Test hundred - have gained a first-innings lead on Day 4. However, with less than four sessions remaining in the match, the home team will need to speed up in Day 4's last session before the spinners can roll the dice on the final day if India want to win at Ahmedabad.
