Former India captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar reckons that Shubman Gill can easily score a truckload of runs in Test cricket if he manages to keep his career in the right direction. Gavaskar's remark came on the third day of the ongoing fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad.

During the post-lunch show on Star Sports, Gavaskar was all praise for Gill for the way he has batted so far in India's first innings. He also believes that if he keeps moving in the right direction then he will easily score 8-10,000 Test runs.

"Kisi bhi ballebaaz ke paas agar time ho, usne agar apne career ko sambhaala, toh aage jaake 8000-10,000 run aaram se kar lega (If a batter has time, if he keeps his career in the right direction, he can easily score 8000-10,000 runs in Tests),"  Sunil Gavaskar was quoted as saying.

After missing out on the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2023), Gill was brought in place of KL Rahul for the third Test. On a tricky wicket, Gill failed to make an impression in both innings of a low-scoring match in Indore, scoring just 26 runs across the two innings. However, in the ongoing Test, the right-handed opener scored his maiden home Test hundred.

Currently in the Test match, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are taking India's innings forward, with the team still trailing behind by 191 runs.
