In a remarkable turn of events, former Indian captain Virat Kohli has completed 4000 Test runs on home soil. Kohli became only the fifth Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag to achieve the milestone during the ongoing Test match against Australia in Ahmedabad.

Most Test runs for India at home

  • Sachin Tendulkar: 7216 Runs in 153 Innings
  • Rahul Dravid: 5598 Runs in 120 Innings
  • Sunil Gavaskar: 5067 Runs in 108 Innings
  • Virender Sehwag: 4656 Runs in 89 Innings
  • Virat Kohli: 4004* Runs in 77 Innings

Hailed as a one of the finest-ever players in white-ball cricket, Kohli has been equally effective in Tests since debuting in 2011. However, he has recently been off colour in whites, managing just over a thousand runs since 2020. But to India's good fortune, the Delhi-born has looked rock-solid during his stay in this game so far.

Regarding the game, India got off to a magnificent start to their first innings, courtesy of a flamboyant century from Shubman Gill and useful contributions from Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara.

However, although Sharma and Pujara couldn't capitalise on their starts, Kohli stitched a crucial 58-run stand with Gill before the latter was trapped plumb in front of the stumps by Nathan Lyon.

At the time of writing, India were well-placed at 263 for 3, with Kohli and Jadeja batting on 46* and 4*, respectively.
